Klimabonus 522 is a public subsidy scheme in Luxembourg supporting the installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems, with or without electricity storage, under the previous regulatory framework.
The subsidy is designed for property owners who want to:
produce their own electricity using solar energy,
reduce reliance on the public grid,
contribute to climate protection,
benefit from financial support for their photovoltaic investment.
To be eligible for Klimabonus 522, the photovoltaic installation must meet the following conditions:
Die peak output of the system must not exceed 30 kWp.
PV panels may be:
mounted on the roof,
installed on the façade, or
integrated into the building envelope.
Installations are allowed on:
residential buildings, und
non-residential buildings.
Hybrid solar collectors producing both electricity and hot water are also eligible.
Two subsidy options are available. The applicant must choose one of them.
Investment grant: 20% of the eligible investment.
Maximum subsidy: 500 €/kWp.
The installation operates in feed-in mode mit einem state-guaranteed feed-in tariff.
Self-consumption is still possible under this option.
The feed-in tariff is guaranteed for 15 years.
The exact tariff level depends on the grid connection date of the installation.
📅 Validity:
invoices dated between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2026,
the installation must have been ordered no later than 4 March 2026.
Investment grant: 50% of the eligible investment.
Maximum subsidy: 1,250 €/kWp.
The system operates in self-consumption mode.
The applicant must renounce the guaranteed feed-in tariff for the entire lifetime of the installation.
This renunciation is firm and irreversible.
Eine buy-back contract must be concluded with an electricity supplier for surplus electricity.
In most cases, this involves:
individual or collective self-consumption, or
participation in an energy community.
📅 Validity:
invoices dated between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2026,
order placed no later than 4 March 2026.
For photovoltaic installations:
ordered between 1 January 2023 and 30 September 2024, und
invoiced by 31 December 2026,
an increased investment subsidy of 62.5% applies if the guaranteed feed-in tariff is waived.
Maximum subsidy: 1,562.5 €/kWp.
Electricity storage (net capacity) is eligible for a subsidy under the following conditions:
PV system output: more than 4 kWp,
storage capacity: up to 1.5 kWh per kWp,
mit einem maximum of 12 kWh.
PV system output: more than 1.5 kWp per residential unit,
storage capacity: up to 1.5 kWh per kWp,
mit einem maximum of 9 kWh per residential unit.
storage capacity: up to 1 kWh per kWp.
For the 2022 tax year, income from installations above 10 kWp is taxable.
For the 2023 tax year, income from installations above 30 kWp is taxable.
An additional photovoltaic installation on the same roof, façade or building envelope is eligible for subsidy if:
the electricity injection into the grid takes place at least 2 years after the first injection of the previous installation.
Die subsidy application can be submitted after the installation has been completed.
Eligible households may apply for a social top-up subsidy after receiving the decision granting the Klimabonus subsidy.
